CICB 2014 International Competition

The Cecchetti Society of Canada is proud of our four competitors, Miya Bates, Melissa Eguchi, Hannah Feltham and Jamie Stark (all students of the School of Alberta Ballet) and wishes to congratulate each of them for their exceptional performances in Richmond, Virginia.

Thirty-nine competitors participated, representing Australia, Canada, South Africa, UK and USA.  Of the fifteen finalists, Canada was represented by Miya Bates and Melissa Eguchi.  Melissa Eguchi won the Audience Favorite Award and Miya Bates won a scholarship from Danzare Cecchetti ANCEC – Italy

Miya Bates’ Impressions:

I'm so thankful that I was able to take part in the 2014 Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition.  It was such a delight to work with Kirk Peterson, Evelyn Cisneros-Legate and Angeline Wolf throughout the week.  They truly made every day fun and pleasurable.  I also really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere that the competition created; the competitors gave off so much positive energy which really made me feel comfortable and at home.  Because of this I was able to meet lots of new people and make friendships with other dancers from around the world.  What I enjoyed the most about this experience was being able to perform at the beautiful Carpenter Theatre in Richmond. The interior of the Theatre was decorated so beautifully and my favourite moment was when I was on stage performing and I could see the stars on the ceiling twinkling every so often.  The Cecchetti International Competition has been one of the best experiences I've had during my training and I'm very pleased to have been offered a scholarship to Danzare Cecchetti ANCEC in Italy where I looking forward to spending time next summer.
